Context

Context

Fitness apps often focus on tracking or rigid routines, but many users need a more flexible, motivational approach. FitFuzion addresses this gap by helping users discover new exercises, set personal goals, and stay on track through social support and self-driven learning.

Problem Statement

Problem Statement

How might we support gym-goers in building sustainable habits by offering a fitness experience that feels motivating, varied, and emotionally encouraging?

How might we design a fitness experience that keeps users committed to their health goals while offering fun, varied classes that break away from traditional workouts?

Solution

Solution

FitFuzion is a mobile app prototype designed to make fitness feel flexible, personal, and empowering. Rather than focusing solely on performance metrics, it prioritises emotional connection and self-motivation.

Key features include:
Guided routines tailored to individual needs and preferences
Visual progress tracking with badges, streaks, and celebratory feedback
Motivational tools, such as reflection prompts and peer challenges
Rotating class options to keep workouts fresh and reduce burnout

Research

Research

I conducted surveys and interviews with 30 gym-goers aged 20–30 to explore what keeps people motivated or causes them to lose momentum in their fitness journey.

Key Insights:
75% prioritise health but find it hard to stay consistent
50% seek variety and new experiences in their routines
100% value emotional motivation over strict metrics
Users feel more encouraged by gentle nudges than high-pressure goals

Secondary Research:

Analysed behaviour-based fitness platforms like Nike Training Club and Strava
Studied gamification and habit formation models (Atomic Habits, Duolingo UX)
Referenced mental well-being in fitness, focusing on emotional UX principles

User Testing

User Testing

To evaluate usability and emotional connection, I conducted 1:1 testing sessions with users representing the target demographic. Feedback revealed valuable insights that helped refine core features and clarify user expectations.

Key Feedback & Insights

Key Feedback & Insights

-Feature Clarity: Users didn’t understand how the Move Mentor connected to badges; they felt too separate.

-Emotional Engagement: Users wanted the Move Mentor to feel more like a supportive friend, with reminders and encouragement.

-Spotify Integration: Music prompts were seen as too basic—users preferred more fun, choice-based questions (e.g., picking between artists).

High Fidelity Testing & Feedback

As I began developing the high-fidelity prototype, I sought user feedback to validate my visual design choices, particularly the colour palette and UI tone.

Key Feedback:
“Who is your target audience? It feels more targeted at young women because of the colours, and the chatbot feels a bit childish.”
